BJP objects Mersal, demands chopping out scenes!
Mersal sets
stage for political party’s involvement in censor board activities. Bhartiya
Janta party had objection on the content portrayed in this South Indian movie. Highlighting
the issue of GST, digital India, health care scenario and comparing it with
that of Singapore was not appreciated by the party in a sarcastic way.
BJP
proclaimed that the movie intended to hurt the sensibilities. Widespread
controversy added feathers to Mersal’s success; beating the opening day
collection of Rajnikant’s Kabali.
The fact of
the matter is, the government fails to prevent violence on film, for instance
Padmavati controversy. It should not interfere in the broadcasted content of
the movie. Films are a mirror to the society, government should embrace its
piousness rather than oppressing their voice. Freedom of speech and expression
has become an absolute right, with restrictions imposed by government.
A section of
society demands intelligent, realistic, creative content; in other words
audience adoring parallel cinema still exists. Chopping out scenes from various
widely appreciated movies such as Lipstick under my burkha, Udta Punjab has led
to widespread criticism. Censoring activities lead to lose the charm of the
content, as a result the desired message is not reached to the society. A
democratic nation should never fail to accept its loopholes portrayed on screen,
weakness shall be accepted as a challenge to overcome obstacles rather than
censoring satire in cinema.
