Artistic extravaganza at Craft Bazar
The Craft Bazar
at Gauhar Mahal is a hub of India’s rich cultural and creative diversity. Exquisite
handlooms and handicrafts exhibited by the people from North East is a center
of attraction for all art lovers.
Unique and
alluring artistry is a treat to the eyes. “These handmade tribal paintings and
stone dust painting are time consuming to make, it takes around six to seven
hours to create one piece. The marble dust is mixed with fevicol to create
dough and a freehand painting is made” said Krishna Das, from Assam, who has
been working for fifteen years. “Purchasers are also showing interest in
Terracotta Jwellery and Bamboo lamps” he added.
Diverse
merchandise made from Bamboo work such as wall fan, glasses, letter holder,
candle stand, jug, tray, Japi hat of Assam is a high spot for shoppers. “I
purchased cups made of bamboo and wood, they looked unique and beautiful” said
Sonika Nema, a housewife.
Kanu Kar from
Tripura displayed incense sticks made from flowers and sandal wood. Anwar, from
Muradabad presented Bells, elephant, cow and calf are made by Brass work; Gramophone,
Key holder, Shield and sword are made of copper work. “Visitors are more inclined towards handmade
woven jute bags, showpiece made using paper mold and thread work” said Kali
Das.
Another artist from
Assam, Uttam Naskar, creates mats from khuskhus grass
by weaving the grass and finishing it with cotton thread embroidery. R K Singh,
an artist said “In Dokra art is handmade in which we engrave a figure. Apart
from this, we are displaying foil emboss work and pattachitra. Suvindu Dutta
from Kolkata has been working for more than fifteen years; they have showcased
plates, showpieces, dakshinavarti shankh,
dhoopdhan stand. The raw materials are acquired from Chennai
and South Africa.
